The Architectural Rehabilitation of Rabat Ba‘Shan
Another wonderful stronghold and private residential complex, is the site at Rabat, belonging to Shaykh ‘Abdullah ‘Awad Bin Ladin, his sons and families. Surveys were conducted during 2008-2009, covering the walled complex. A Final Report was prepared in 2009 with a preliminary feasibility study. This included the plan to renovate and rehabilitate the cluster. The project includes private residential and guest housing, a community and cultural centre.

The housing complex is walled, appearing like one large mansion. Behind and alongside the white washed wadi façade stand eleven buildings in total, including four that were used as a school. Offices for the first Water Company founded by ‘Abdullah bin ‘Awad in Daw’an still occupy two rooms along the main road.
