The Holcim Foundation ‘conducts the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction – the world’s most
significant competition for sustainable design with total prize money per cycle of USD 2 million. The
international competition showcases the important role that architecture, engineering, urban planning, and
the building industry have in achieving a more sustainable future…’

‘The Holcim Awards jury Middle East Africa applauded the project’s ambition to restore the integrity and
social beliefs of a community through the rehabilitation of Yemeni historic sites rich with social, cultural
and spiritual values. The project reaffirms the significance of the inherited aesthetic forms, which have a
lasting impact on the quality of their environment. The interventions are conducted with high cultural and
environmental awareness, that show a sensitive and respectful approach towards places and their history.’

Each year, the Academy of Architecture distinguishes personalities whose commitment contributes to the
promotion of architecture and the art of building. These awards are distributed in three series: the
Architecture Award, the Building Award and the young architects Award, each of these awards comprises
            various medals.

All of these distinctions reward talent, quality, creativity and are also directed towards the work and
research that contributes to the progress of sciences, to the improvement of the architectural debate, to
the development of architecture, urbanism, and building techniques and education.

Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2012

The Global Award for Sustainable Architecture is awarded every year to five architects who are committed to
the notion of sustainable development and to a participative approach to the needs of society - whether in
            the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.
The award was created in 2006 by the architect and professor Jana Revedin, and with the support of a range
of French and European partners: the Cité de l’architecture & du Patrimoine, responsible for the cultural
valorisation and the members of the international Scientific Committee.
The work carried out over these six years has given the Global Award undeniable international recognition. In
2010, Jana Revedin created the LOCUS Fund as a means of assuring the awards’ scientific independence and of
federating the Global Award winners in urban renewal projects in developing countries.
